Disrupted is a multi-disciplinary installation comprising paper sculpture, moving image, sound, and works made with oak gall and iron ink. Developed through research into handmade papermaking in Jaipur, India, the work explores the fragility of craft traditions. The project is informed by the critically endangered status of traditional handmade papermaking in the UK, where only one traditional paper mill remains.

Central to the installation is a film created from footage recorded in the paper-making workshops of Sanganer, Jaipur. Projected onto sculptural forms constructed from handmade paper, the moving image is fragmented and obscured by the textured surface.

Through repeated cycles of filming and re-projection, the work mirrors the transformative processes of papermaking itself, where raw fibres are continually reworked into new forms.

The disrupted imagery and sound evoke the gradual disappearance of traditional skills and labour practices. Figures appear as fleeting silhouettes, while sounds become fragmented traces of place, process, and memory.

Accompanying works, Rupture and Aperture, are created from handmade paper and oak gall ink, referencing paper's historic role in the recording and transmission of knowledge. Across the installation, multiples are assembled into larger forms, reflecting an ongoing interest in material transformation, collective histories, and the relationship between craft, community, and cultural memory.
