Displaced and Dispossessed – Isle of Mull

Inspired by the abandoned village of Treshnish on the Isle of Mull, Displaced and Dispossessed explores themes of loss, displacement, and belonging through the use of locally gathered materials. By incorporating materials from the surrounding environment, the work creates a direct connection between place, history, and lived experience, transforming the landscape itself into both subject and medium.

The artwork reflects on the Scottish Highland Clearances, when thousands of people were forcibly removed from their homes, leaving lasting marks on communities and the land. By connecting this history to contemporary experiences of migration and the global refugee crisis, the work highlights the enduring human impact of displacement. Rooted in a specific landscape yet resonating beyond its local context, it invites viewers to reflect on memory, resilience, and what it means to feel connected to a place. Through this dialogue between past and present, the work considers how landscapes can carry stories of both loss and hope across generations.
